Identify the water path before choosing the work
You can describe where the first visible drip appears from a safe, dry position. A photo taken without removing covers can help. Note whether the furnace was heating, the AC was running, or a humidifier was in use when you first noticed it. You do not need to reproduce the leak.
A wet joint does not establish whether that joint is the source. Water could be traveling along the pipe from somewhere else. Ask the technician to identify the actual starting point and whether the affected pipe is exhaust, combustion air, drainage, or another connection.
We recommend evaluating the leak and the installation together. Sealing the visible spot without finding why water is there can leave the underlying problem unresolved.
What to ask the technician
Request the model-specific explanation for how moisture should be collected and drained. Ask whether the pipe material, joints, support, and slope are appropriate for their role, and whether a drain or trap concern needs separate correction.
For example, the Daikin DM96TN/DC96TN (July 2023) manual has specific condensate collection and drain requirements. Those instructions illustrate why the actual furnace manual matters; they do not prescribe a repair for an unidentified pipe. Daikin condensate instructions, pages 17–22.
Ask whether the vent's condition also requires combustion or venting checks. A tidy exterior repair alone does not establish that the furnace is ready for use. Request the professional's operating findings and any remaining condition before restarting.
Protect the home without entering the equipment
Do not place a bucket where it requires reaching into a cabinet or underneath unsafe equipment. If you can protect a nearby dry surface without touching the unit, do so. Active spreading water or unsafe access needs professional help rather than a homeowner cleanup attempt.
If the furnace needs to remain out of use, confirm the repair timing and the household's warmth plan. Another warm place may be needed if the home cannot remain suitable while waiting.
Your next action is to report the visible leak location, operating conditions, and any electrical exposure, then request identification of the source before agreeing to a joint repair.
