Why speed needs an operating check
The blower moves heat away from the furnace into the home. Changing its heating speed changes the operating conditions, not just the sound.
For example, the Lennox ML296DFVK manual requires temperature rise (how much the air warms through the furnace) to meet the rating-plate range. It warns of erratic limit operation, meaning unreliable operation of the protective overheating shutoff, from an incorrect adjustment. Your model's instructions govern. A lower setting that barely changes the noise may be changing something unrelated to the sound's source. It is not evidence that another lower setting will solve the problem.
Give the technician the change record
Share the original setting if recorded, the new setting, when it was changed, and whether it affected heating or cooling. Include existing photos or notes without opening powered equipment for more. Tell them about any shortened cycles, weak airflow, new error, or burning smell after the change.
Do not follow a generic speed-tap diagram, change control-board switches, or bypass a safety limit. Do not assume one model's allowable heating speed applies to another. Leave the internal adjustment to the qualified person.
Diagnose the original noise separately
Ask the technician to establish the supported setup and then identify where the noise comes from under proper operation. Ask whether it is a component sound, air sound, or vibration transmitted through the installation. A sound heard throughout the house does not automatically mean the blower itself is defective.
Lennox's buzzing guidance identifies several possible equipment sources, including motors and electrical components. The technician needs an actual finding before choosing a correction. Lennox noise-source possibilities.
If an airflow or acoustic dependency needs another trade, ask who owns that work and what is included. Do not assume an equipment visit includes duct work.
Your next step is a service request to verify the settings and diagnose the original noise. Ask for the final operating checks and a comparison of the noise afterward. The target is suitable operation with an explained correction, not the lowest fan setting.
